Polyscreen technology of study of foreign languages

Ladies and Gentlemen,
May we have the honor to present an entirely new technology in intensive foreign languages teaching – the POLYSCREEN technology.

 Nowadays most of us plunge into chaos of daily information torrents. So, in accordance with specifics of our occupation we have to sort out enormous quantities of various data day by day. Traditional methods of processing information at verbal level do not ensure the quantitative as well as qualitative grasp of many essential things. When STC INTALKS came across this problem in 1990 its specialists turned to research in the field of human psychology and psychophysiology. As a result, they came to a conclusion that one of the most powerful tools which enables to steer the teaching process at verbal and non-verbal levels is the polyscreen.

 The research showed the following: people are able to remember only limited volumes of information, i.e.: 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, 50% of what they see and hear, 80% of what they see, hear and say.

 Since 1990 STC INTALKS has been providing intensive teaching of foreign languages based on the polyscreen complex. The appearing of special projecting equipment which transfers computer data onto a large screen has made it possible to replace technical carriers of presented information. In order to intensify the language training process INTALKS staff began to develop special software which could implement the whole potential of screen – projecting equipment of a new generation was carried out. Possible mental overloads whilst class running are eliminated with the help of relaxing background music, auto-training and relaxation intervals. For this purpose teachers use visual and projecting technical aids, showing dynamic video fragments with the sixteen million colours’ palette. Switching-over from interactive language training to relaxation breaks enables to efficiently assimilate the language material. All this allows to increase 2-4 times the volume of the material presented at classes in comparison with an average intensive course. For example, a regular 140 hour course of German or English contains approximately 3.200 words and expressions in 34 oral conversational topics. The polyscreen teaching technology makes it possible to attain substantial assimilation of 800 vocabulary units in active usage along with 2.000-2.500 ones in general comprehension. The course, which lasts 5 weeks, is a daily sequence of 5 academic hour classes, hereby immersing the students in the language environment.
Due to the involvement of 18 keys of human memory simultaneously the efficiency of this technology is not confined to any age limits as well as any levels of students’ basic knowledge.

 Unlike other existing technologies and methods of foreign language teaching, this one gives the possibilities to:

— use human memory in the proper way (24 keys of memory simultaneously + active involvement of the long-term memory);
— model a language environment immersion;
— reduce the term of training, improving the quality of assimilation of material being studied;
— increase the volume of the language material 2-4 times in comparison with traditional intensive courses.

 Polyscreen technology has been applied in Bryansk State Pedagogical University and has been recommended for application in all educational institutions.

 Nowadays STC INTALKS is expanding the network of its representatives in Russia, C.I.S. and abroad.
